March Frequently Asked Questions

When and where is the march?

The March for Women's Lives will take place on the national mall in Washington, DC, on April 25, 2004. Assembly will begin at 10:00 a.m. Step off will take place at noon. The rally will take place from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Who is organizing the march?

Planned Parenthood Federation of America, NARAL Pro-Choice America, NOW, the Feminist Majority Foundation, Black Women's Health Imperative, National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, and the ACLU are the seven principal organizers of the march.

Who can become a co-sponsor for the march?

As of March 1, 2004, well over 1000 groups have signed on as co-sponsors of the march. To become a co-sponsor, your organization must agree to encourage your members to participate, or commit to organize delegations and spread the word about the march. Financial contributions are encouraged but not required for co-sponsorship. Due to the nature of the march, we cannot accept co-sponsorship from political candidates, their committees, or political parties. However, candidates are welcome to co-sponsor as individuals.

All co-sponsors will be asked to agree to guidelines that disallow partisan political activities in connection with the march.

What does it mean to “sign up” for the march?

By completing the registration form for the march, you will receive information and updates about the march, including details about organizing activities in your area. There is no financial obligation for signing up.

What is a delegation? Any group with 20 or more participants may be a delegation. Two members of this delegation should be designated as facilitators. Facilitators function as the primary liaisons between the delegation and the national march office. Delegations must register with the national march office to be listed in the official march materials. Of course, individual participants are always enthusiastically encouraged.

How do I form a delegation? Delegations can be organized by asking friends, family, co-workers, fellow congregants, club members, etc., to join together to come to the march. We urge you to think of an interesting name for your group and create a banner for all of you to carry. If interested parties cannot put together a large enough group to form their own delegation, they should join their local Planned Parenthood affiliate delegation.

Is there a national March for Women's Lives office?
