The short explanation of this alert was:
A serious threat to women’s access to safe and legal abortion in Indiana will be heard in the General Assembly this Wednesday.
Senate Bill 89 is scheduled for hearing by the Indiana House Public Policy Committee next Wednesday, March 25 at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Senate Bill 89 would require doctors who perform abortions in Indiana to obtain hospital admitting privileges in the county where the abortion occurs, or an adjacent county. It is unnecessary, it is burdensome, and it adds nothing to health care policy in Indiana. If passed, it will further erode access to Hoosier women’s ability to make the right choices for themselves and their families.
The legislation would mandate the same requirements as the county ordinances passed in both Vanderburgh and Dubois counties, where it has been falsely marketed as a “patient safety” movement. We must do everything possible to ensure that this legislation is not given a favorable vote in committee.
Please take action by sending the letter/email below or, even better, a similar one in your own words, to your State Representative. You can also call your legislator at (800) 382-9842.
