$1.5 billion has been wasted on "abstinence-only" programs that do nothing to reduce unintended pregnancy or prevent dangerous infections. Ohio's teens deserve real sex education that will help them to make safe, informed, responsible choices.
The Ohio Prevention First Act (HB 251, SB 179) focuses on the prevention of unintended pregnancies through comprehensive sex education for teens, including abstinence, and affordable, accessible birth control.
The Ohio Prevention First Act will reduce unintended pregnancies through:
-Realistic sexuality education and teen pregnancy prevention programs,
-Funding for family planning programs,
-Guaranteed access to birth control prescriptions,
-Contraceptive equity, and
-Emergency contraception access and education.
The Ohio Prevention First Act was introduced over one year ago, but the Chair of the House Health Committee has not yet scheduled a hearing.
Rep. Lynn Wachtmann has called himself a "squeaky-wheel kind of guy." Let's provide him with the encouragement he needs to hold a hearing on the Ohio Prevention First Act. It's important to let him know where you stand on this commonsense legislation.
