The short explanation of this alert was:

A+ Fails in the House by only TWO votes!

Unfortunately, your representative voted NO.

This week, the Kansas State House failed to include the Abstinence-Plus Education Act in their school funding bill (60-62). This bill (SB 508) would re-instate age-appropriate, medically accurate sex education in Kansas schools, emphasizing the benefits of abstinence, while including information on HIV/AIDs and preventing unintended pregnancies. This act maintains local control over curriculum and ensures that all parents have the opportunity to opt their child out.

Did you know?

  • In 1987, the State Board of Education passed a mandate for comprehensive sex education.
  • Teen pregnancy has decreased 20 percent in Kansas since that policy went into effect.
  • The current State Board of Education allowed that mandate to expire in July 2005.

Please take a moment to express your disappointment to your State Representative for not supporting A+ for Kansas.
