We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina.

The short explanation of this alert was:

The School Violence Prevention Act (House Bill 1366) is a bi-partisan effort to eliminate bullying and harassment in North Carolina by requiring all schools to adopt policies that clearly define and prohibit bullying and harassment, and to create a clear system of reporting and responding to incidents. Currently, no such statewide definition exists.

This critical piece of legislation enumerates protected categories of students which provides a clear and necessary statement that all students are valued and deserve protection under law. Sadly, this bill has met strong opposition from far right-wing groups who are opposed to offering protection without regard to a student's real or perceived differences in characteristics, appearance or ability.

Let your legislators know those that oppose this bill are a small minority and that you strongly believe that all of our schools should be bullying and harassment free!
