Did you know? 72% (8,285) of reported Chlamydia cases in CT in 2007 were among young people aged 10-24 and 57% (1,329) of reported Gonorrhea cases in CT in 2007 were among young people aged 10-24. In Connecticut, there is no dedicated funding for comprehensive sex education programs that work. CT is one of 14 states that do not require a health education credit before graduation.
YOU CAN HELP! Sign the petition telling our legislators that teens need access to health education, including developmentally appropriate comprehensive sexuality education. All CT students should be required to complete 1 credit in heatlh education in their schools for graduation. This information will help teens make healthy and safe choices surrounding their sexual health. The health of young people in Connecticut is at risk and the time to act is now. Support Healthy Teens!
I support comprehensive sex education that will educate teens about lifelong responsible decision-making that includes abstinence, pregnancy prevention and disease prevention. I urge you to do everything possible to support comprehensive sex education programs for CT youth. This includes supporting HB 5489 An Act Concerning Secondary School Reform requiring a graduation requirement of 1 credit in comprehensive health education.
Please ensure Connecticut's youth have access to medically accurate, developmentally appropriate sex education and require 1 credit of comprehensive health education for graduation. The health of young people in Connecticut is at risk.
