Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina. The short explanation of this alert was: NC Women United believes that all women and their families have the right to live in a happy, healthy and safe environment without fear of violence or the threat of violence. Therefore, NCWU supports House Bill 44 Domestic Violence Orders/Repeat Violators as a critical issue for Women's Advocacy Day 2008. House Bill 44 strengthens the enforcement of domestic violence protective orders and would ultimately save lives. The proposed legislation would reduce the number of prior convictions required to charge an offender with a Class H felony for violation of a protective order from three prior convictions to one prior conviction. In 2007 alone, 83 women, men and children were murdered in North Carolina because of domestic violence. Violation of a domestic violence protective order is a serious crime and is a red flag to the court system that the offender may commit a homicide. Please ask your legislator to save lives in North Carolina by supporting House Bill 44. If you would like to view details on this alert, please visit here. |
