The short explanation of this alert was:

House Defeats Anti-Abortion Amendment to GAMC bill

Yesterday, the Minnesota House voted overwhelmingly to continue a state financed health insurance plan for 35,000 of the state’s poorest, sickest adults.  On the way to this historic vote, the House defeated an amendment that would have banned GAMC from covering abortion (note: GAMC does not cover abortion.  Pregnant women covered by GAMC are automatically converted to Medicaid).  The vote to defeat the amendment was as close as it could get 67-67.  Even though, this bill was vetoed by the Governor, it's important to recognize those who stood up for women's health in this bill.

Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher played an instrumental role and without her work this amendment might have not been defeated.

Please take time to thank Speaker Kelliher for her commitment towards women's health issues and her impact in getting this amendment defeated!
