Decline to Sign CI-100

CI-100: Wrong for Montana

Montana's Constitution belongs to all of us. It is there to protect our rights, not take them away - and it is certainly not the place to put Montana women's lives and health at risk.

It would take the most personal decisions away from a woman and her doctor and hand them to politicians and the courts. But that is not all it would do:

  • CI-100 would give a fertilized egg more rights than a pregnant woman. For example, it could be a crime for a pregnant woman with cancer to receive chemotherapy if her treatment harms the fetus. And for any woman, treatment for any chronic or emergency medical condition could be denied if it would harm her pregnancy.

  • Rick Jore, the sponsor of CI-100, has stated that this measure could allow the governement to "look at the cause of death" in cases of miscarriage. Does this mean women will be investigated or reported for having a miscarriage? (Montana House of Representatives. HB 403, 2nd Reading. February 12, 2007.)

  • Many forms of birth control could be outlawed.

  • CI-100's flawed and ambiguous language will lead to a massive number of lawsuits, tying up the courts, costing taxpayer dollars and putting our privacy and future at risk.

All of this would be locked into our Constitution,
requiring the public
to make further amendments
to the Constitution just to fix the mess.

Subject: Decline to Sign Ci-100

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I pledge to "decline to sign" the petitions to qualify CI-100 for the November ballot. CI-100 dramatically amends Montana's Constitution and opens the door for politicians and courts to interfere in our confidential medical decisions. CI-100 jeopardizes the health of all the important women in our lives: mothers, daughters, sisters and friends.
