The Prevention First package of bills symbolizes a commitment to the citizens of Michigan to support healthy families through commonsense prevention measures.  Improving access to preventative health care should be a statewide goal.  The need to ensure reliable sexual and reproductive health education and information, increase access to family planning services and help plan parenthood, healthy pregnancies and healthy families is imperative. This proposed package of legislation will protect women’s health, reduce unintended pregnancies, reduce abortion, help prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections and save scarce public health dollars.

I urge you to support the Prevention First package of bills (HB 5155 - HB 5165). The need to ensure and expand access to reproductive health information and services is very important to me. At a time when the Legislature has passed a Department of Community Health budget that decimates the family planning program, prevention efforts have never been more important. These prevention bills were recently voted out of the House Judiciary Committee and are expected to move to the House floor for debate later this fall. This package of legislation will protect women's health, reduce unintended pregnancies and help prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
