Subject: Support the Medicaid Family Planning State Option
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to support the Medicaid Family Planning State Option provision of the economic stimulus bill. In these difficult times, when more and more people are losing their jobs and health insurance, extending safety-net health care coverage is absolutely vital.
This provision would allow millions of women to obtain basic health care, while at the same time generating savings for states and the federal government by expanding access to preventive care. Studies estimate that 2.3 million low-income women would receive coverage under this provision, and 500,000 women would be able to avoid unintended pregnancies. With every dollar spent to provide family planning services generating $4.02 in Medicaid savings in the following year alone, this provision not only would protect health care -- it would make good economic sense.
I urge you to support the Medicaid Family Planning State Option.
