FOX and CBS Say Yes to Sex, No to Condoms

FOX and CBS have refused to air a condom ad because it is "inappropriate" and focuses on preventing unintended pregnancies rather than explicity on prevention of sexually transmitted infections.  This is an outrage and an extremely hypocritical stance for both networks as their prime time programming is brimming with sexual content.

Tell CBS and FOX to stop the hypocrisy and air ads that promote public health!

Subject: Air ads that promote public health!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am shocked that you have chosen to reject a condom ad that focuses on pregnancy prevention rather than explicitly on prevention of sexually transmitted infections. This is the height of hypocrisy as your prime-time programming is chock full of sexual content - from Temptation Island to Victoria's Secret Fashion Show to The O.C. Somehow you think it is appropriate to air salacious programming but inappropriate to air ads that promote the full health benefits of condoms - that is outrageous!

The FOX statement, "Contraceptive advertising must stress health-related uses rather than the prevention of pregnancy," is unbelievable. You cannot pretend that unintended pregnancies are not a "health-related" issue. Meanwhile, CBS defended its rejection of the ad, stating that it "did not find it appropriate" for the network. Approximately half of all pregnancies in the United States are unintended, and we need to use every available resource to combat that situation. You need to reverse your shameful decision and opt to air ads that promote public health immediately!

Sincerely,
