Get Real, Indiana! petition
Are you one of the majority of Hoosiers who support comprehensive sex education? 
- According to a 2003 statewide poll conducted by Indiana University, 8 out of 10 Hoosiers believe Indiana public high schools should educate teens about how to use condoms.
- In a 2003 poll of Indiana residents conducted by Ball State University, Hoosiers believe that school-based instruction about sexuality should begin in 6th or 7th grade.
- Data gathered by Indiana University in 2004 indicate that nearly 90% of school personnel think that comprehensive sex education is effective.
Sadly, Indiana spent over $2.6 million (federal dollars) in fiscal year 2004 on abstinence-only-until-marriage programs that, in accordance with strict federal guidelines, limit what information students are taught. Teachers are often not allowed to discuss other forms of contraception and disease prevention even when students ask directly about them.
Comprehensive sex education programs are designed to promote the overall health and well-being of each student by including information on a wide variety of sexual health topics, including abstinence, contraception, decision making, and communication. Demand a better approach to sex ed in our schools. Join Get Real, Indiana!
