Protect Your County!
Indiana Right to Life is taking a new approach to slashing Hoosier women's reproductive rights. After realizing that their anti-choice agenda was not making waves with legislators at the Indiana Statehouse, they switched gears and began attacking at the local level.
County Commissioners in two southern Indiana counties (Vanderburgh and Dubois) have already passed an ordinance that mandates hospital privileges in the county or adjacent counties for surgeons performing abortions within county limits. Indiana Right to Life is currently pushing for the same ordinance to be passed in Allen County, but unlike the commissioners in the other two counties who passed the regulation with little or no public input, the Allen County Commissioners want to know what YOU think.
This is your chance to let them know that you disagree with this very unnecessary restriction to women's reproductive choice. You can use the letter we have created for you below or utilize the key messages (talking points) provided and write your own.

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As a strong supporter of women's access to reproductive health care and health care providers in our community, I urge you to look closely at the county ordinance "concerning patient safety" that is being brought before you.
While the ordinance was initially thought to propose standards for all doctors performing outpatient surgeries, as it stands it addresses only a few gynecological procedures--a very obvious attack on women's freedom of choice in Allen County.
This proposed ordinance addresses a problem that doesn't exist. If those proposing the ordinance really cared about patient safety, they would target procedures with higher complication rates and/or procedures that are not already heavily regulated by the state.
Please continue to ensure that women in Allen County will always have a choice in their reproductive health matters. Please do not support this regulation.
Sincerely,
