June 25th marked the final day of the 2009 Louisiana Legislative Session. Here's a quick look at the legislation that Planned Parenthood tracked this session and a call to action!
Take Action NOW! HB 517 is on the Governor's desk
HB 517, by Rep. LeBas (D-Ville Platte), would provide protections to public and private health care workers who refuse to provide information and services related to the following areas: abortion, dispensation of abortifacient drugs, human embryonic stem cell research, human embryo cloning, euthanasia, or physician assisted suicide. Call the Governor today (225-342-7015) and urge him to VETO HB517. HB517 would limit patient's access to health care services and information.
Also, please take a moment to thank Senator Jackson and Rep. Peterson for introducing resolutions HCR66 (Rep. Peterson) and SCR46 (Senator Jackson) that recognized Planned Parenthood's Lobby Day at the State Capitol.

Bills tracked this session:
HB1 - Budget Bill
SCR5 - Senator A.G. Crowe (R-Slidell) - Died on the calendar. Sought to memorialize Congress to reject the proposed "Freedom of Choice Act."
HB524 - Rep. Frank Hoffman (R-West Monroe) - Died in committee. Would have authorized the district attorney to convene a multi-disciplinary team to aid pregnant women who are abusing alcohol and drugs.
SB289 - Senator Conrad Appel (R-Metairie) - Headed to the Governor's desk. This bill replaces the Choose Life Advisory Council with the Louisiana Right to Life Education Committee.
Finally, in the coming weeks, I'll be sending out an email highlighting the legislators that took a stand for access to reproductive health care.
