There is a lot going on in
October! Next week, PPLAMD will celebrate its 25
anniversary in New
Orleans at our annual gala, Safe Sex in
the Big Easy. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness
Month and Planned Parenthood encourages all women to make
breast exams a priority! National Family Sex
Education Month is also in October.
This week also marks the mid-point for the
40 days of harassment campaign that is being waged against
Planned Parenthood health centers and abortion providers
across the nation. We are fortunate not to have protestors
at our health centers in Louisiana. However, I'd like
to take a moment to give a shout out to our courageous staff and
clients in Texas that muster the energy to fight these vicious
attacks day after day with grace. The protestors might be
opposed to birth control, choice and medically accurate sex
education, but that won't stop us from providing our communities
with the services and information to live and love the way
that's best for them. |

I AM EMILY
X: the true-life stories of frontline Planned
Parenthood workers and volunteers
The "I Am Emily X" blog
tells the true-life stories of Planned Parenthood workers and
volunteers as they encounter protestors and interact with
clients during the 40 Days of Harassment. You will be outraged
and inspired. You can help by pledging a few cents for every
protester Emily X encounters. You can even see a running tally
of protesters each day on this blog. Go to I Am

Playing Defense in
Louisiana
It's not
surprising that the opposition is using the media to spread lies
about Planned Parenthood. They've been doing it for
decades. But, every once in a while there is a letter to
the editor or a commentary that just goes a little too
far. Here's an example of a recent outrageous attack
on Planned Parenthood that was printed in the Hammond Star
and our response letter that was printed a few days
later.

Take Back the Night
let's march in
solidarity to help stop violence against
women
Hosted by the LSU Women's
Center and Wellness Department, the event will be held at LSU on
October 18, 2009. The program will include a candlelight vigil
dedicated to women and families affected by domestic violence.
The evening will end with a march through the LSU campus and
surrounding community to raise awareness about violence against
women.
Planned Parenthood will be there in support and we
enourage our supporters and volunteers to
participate!
