Rep. Maureen Walsh Censured - Please Show Her Your Support!

Yesterday, it was reported that Rep. Maureen Walsh, a long-time Planned Parenthood ally in the state legislature, was attacked for supporting domestic partnership rights (for the full story, click HERE).

But this group only speaks for a small part of her district and we don't want them speaking for us.

Planned Parenthood greatly appreciates the fantastic support Rep. Walsh gives to our issues.  We'd like to return the favor and show her some support.  Do so by sending her a note of thanks and support.

Subject: Thanks for Standing Strong

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I was outraged to hear that you have been censured by the Franklin County Republicans. As a constituent, I believe your vote to expand domestic partnership in Washington was the right thing do and accurately represents our district.

Thank you for standing strong and supporting the rights of our LGBTQ sisters, brothers, neighbors and friends.

I also want to thank you for supporting reproductive health and rights issues this session - your support of the Proven Programs Act was crucial to its success.

Sincerely,

Background Information

On April 21, the Franklin County Republicans voted to censure Rep. Walsh over her support to expand domestic partnership rights in Washington.  Censuring by the group reflects their disapproval of her actions and their feeling that she no longer represents their county's party.  In the next election, they will actively seek a candidate to replace her in the legislature.

Rep. Walsh is standing by her vote, believing she did the right thing for her district: "I have always felt to do anything different was discrimination. It's not my place to say who loves whom. It seems to me God is the ultimate judge, but it's not for me to be making those calls about who should have the same rights I have as a citizen of this country."

During the 2009 session, Rep. Walsh was a great supporter of reproductive healths and rights issues.  She cosponsored the Proven Programs Act, voted for the BPA Ban and voiced her support for funding for family planning.
