Originally introduced as SB801, Sen. Cuccinelli's 'Choose Life' license plate bill was defeated in the Senate Transportation Committee. However, when the Senate approved the omnibus bill SB817, Sen. Cuccinelli amended the bill to include his license plate bill. SB817 passed both the Senate and the House, and is now on it's way to the Governor's office. This bill would allow the DMV to sell license plates bearing the legend 'Choose Life' and the funds generated from the sale of these plates would go to 'Crisis Pregnancy Centers.'

Take Action: Please ask Gov. Kaine to veto 'Choose Life' license plates when the bill reaches his desk! You can also call the Governor at 804-786-2211 to ask him to veto the license plate.

I am writing to ask that you veto Sen. Cuccinelli's 'Choose Life' license plate bill. The funds generated from the sale of these plates would go to crisis pregnancy centers, which masquerade as legitimate health care centers but actually provide very little in the way of services. They use deceptive and intimidating tactics to keep women from accessing their full range of reproductive health care options. These centers provide medically inaccurate information that is presented as fact.

In a climate where people are losing their jobs and the existing health care system is insufficient, it is my hope that you will see this license plate for what it is-an attempt to funnel funds to ideologically motivated organizations that provide very little in the way of real health care.

Please veto the 'Choose Life' license plate.
