Planned Parenthood ® of Metropolitan Washington, DC
Time to Deliver: Real Reform Includes Women's Healthcare

PPMW has been asked to join with other coalition partners and participate in a National Day of Action to support health care reform on Tuesday, October 20. We are eager for health care improvement and we recognize that now is a pivotal time.

The National Day of Action will demonstrate Americans' support for health care reform when the bills are likely to be debated on the House and Senate floors. We are writing letters to the editor to show support for health care reform because we want primary and preventative care to be accessible for every community. As a health care provider, Planned Parenthood knows firsthand how critical it is to expand access to health care coverage, including reproductive health care.

Show your support for health care reform by submitting a letter to the editor of your local paper!

Background Information

Planned Parenthood health centers are part of an important network of community providers that includes local health departments, hospital outpatient clinics, and independent family planning clinics. Community providers serve as a critical entry point into the health care system for thousands of women. That means, for thousands of women the only doctor or nurse they see is one they visit at a health center like PPMW .

With the economic downturn, our health centers have seen a significant increase in patients. Today, one in four women who receives contraceptive care does so at a women's health center. One in six women who obtain a Pap test or a pelvic exam does so at a women's health center, as do one-third of women who receive counseling, testing or treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV. This basic health care is essential, particularly during difficult economic times, to give women the tools they need to protect and support their families.

This is why on October 20th, PPMW is joining in a National Day of Action to demonstrate Americans' support for comprehensive health care reform for all!
