Greetings,

It is with deep sadness that I write you this morning. As many of you know, the Republicans swept the statewide ticket last night. I know that after the months of hard work you have put in, those were not the results you were hoping for. And while it is so hard to find a silver lining in the results from yesterday's election, there are several things we should all keep in mind.

We made a tremendous effort over the past few months. As a grassroots organization, we called thousands of voters and knocked hundreds of doors. We touched many individual voters and ultimately made the opponents spend more time and money than they would have had to do otherwise. We brought attention to issues like access to birth control, comprehensive sex ed, and prevention as sound public policy. And that is a win in and of itself. Individually, you all showed your dedication to Planned Parenthood and spent many hours of your personal time assisting with our efforts. The words 'thank you' will never be enough. Without volunteers like you, Planned Parenthood would be lost!

Now, as we head into what will likely be four years of battles for basic reproductive health care, it is important to take a break to re-energize and be ready to fight in January of 2010. Because I promise you, Planned Parenthood is going to be on everyone's radar and efforts to defund us, restrict our ability to provide quality health care, and put women's heatlh at risk will be rampant. We will need your help even more over the next few years.

But for now, please just allow us to say thank you for fighting the good fight, believing in us, and giving us your all. We could not ask for better supporters and are so lucky to have your help. We will keep fighting because there is too much at stake to give up!
