Join "Arizona Parents for Responsible Sex Education"
Did you know more than 37 teenagers get pregnant in Arizona every single day!
Today’s teens are saturated with sexually charged images, but are starved of accurate information about sex or sexuality. While teachers can’t talk about sex in school and parents are too embarrassed to talk about sex at home, our young adults are thinking about and engaging in sex without the real facts to protect themselves physically and/or emotionally.
We need to take a stand on behalf of the health and futures of today’s youth. It is reckless that we deny teens knowledge about themselves and their bodies. We have the information - parents and community members have the power and influence to ensure that this accurate information is available in the classroom.
Join Parents for Responsible Sex Education! As a parent or youth advocate you have tremendous power. Kids count on you to look out for and protect them. And we’re counting on you, too. We need you to join us and advocate for medically accurate sex education in our schools. You hold the real power to influence what is taught in our schools. Your voice can make the difference for all of Arizona’s children.

Protecting our young people’s future is a priority at Planned Parenthood of Central and Northern Arizona. But we can’t do it alone. With the climate of Arizona’s legislature, it will be years before the issue of sexuality education ever gets a fair hearing. However, now is the time to turn the tide by forming Parents for Responsible Sex Education, a community coalition dedicated to getting complete and accurate sex education in our schools.
Parents for Responsible Sex Education is a parent driven, community outreach and advocacy group designed to create dialogue about sexual health and change the sex education Arizona teens are receiving in school. Sex education should not be a political issue engulfed in controversy about abstinence-only-until-marriage curricula versus medically accurate education. The need for medically accurate sex education is a response to endemic public health concerns affecting teens across Arizona and the nation – an increasing number of reported STD cases among young people and high teen pregnancy rates.
This is the driving force behind medically accurate, age appropriate sex education and Parents for Responsible Sex Education... bridging the divide between what teens need to know and the information they’re getting.
For the majority of teens school sex education classes are their primary source of information about how to protect themselves from STDs, HIV/AIDS and teen pregnancy. Unfortunately, more often than not curriculum taught in schools is not medically accurate, omitting vital information necessary to keep teens from contracting STDs or becoming pregnant. Simply put – lack of information puts teens at risk. Teens need more information so they are able to make safe, responsible choices.
Did you know. . .
- Sex education in Arizona schools does NOT have to be medically accurate or address contraception
- A sexually active teenager who does not use contraception has a 90% chance of becoming pregnant within a year
- Arizona teenagers 14-19 years old are the second largest demographic being diagnosed with STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), 20-24 year olds are the largest group
As a parent or youth advocate you have tremendous power. Kids count on you to look out for and protect them. And we’re counting on you, too. We need you to join us and advocate for medically accurate sex education in our schools. You hold the real power to influence what is taught in our schools.
