In a vote of 25-21, the Healthy Youth Act FINALLY passed the Senate last night!

Under the Healthy Youth Act that came out of the Senate, nearly all 7-9th graders will get comprehensive sex education as part of their overall health curriculum.

Since the version that passed out of the Senate is slightly different than the House version, we must get the House to agree with this version of the bill or it could end up stuck in conference committee where it could die. We will be asking you to take action on this soon, so please stay tuned.

While we still have this one last step to go before the bill can be signed into law by Gov. Perdue, in the meantime we wanted to give you the opportunity to give your Senator a virtual "pat on the back" for voting in favor of this bill.

Please take a moment to send the email below to your Senator. It is equally important that, after weeks of emails urging our Senators' support, we acknowledge that they stood up for young people across the state.

I am writing to express my gratitude to you for standing up for young people across the state by voting for the Healthy Youth Act.

I am confident that this is a step in the right direction to reducing our state's high teen pregnancy and HIV rates.

I know that this sensible, commonsense legislation will educate kids with the tools they need to make healthy choices.
