Support Reproductive Health Care and a Public Option!

If you live in North Carolina and are fortunate enough to have health insurance, chances are good that you're insured by Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS).

Chances are also good that you will receive a pre-printed, postage paid flier in the mail from BCBS that contains a postcard to be clipped and sent to Senator Kay Hagan opposing the public option.

If you're a BCBS customer you may be more than a little annoyed that your premiums funded this expensive mail campaign, especially since they just hiked premium rates by 11%.

Not to worry! There is a fun way to do your civic duty by letting your Senator know what you really think all while BCBS pays the bill!

Use the suggested changes at the bottom of this email to modify your postcard or become inspired to write your own! Then drop it in the mail to Senator Hagan!

Didn't get the postcard and/or inspired to take more action? We make it simple! Click on "Take Action" and send an email to Senator Hagan asking for her support of the public option and to make sure that reproductive health care is fully covered!

Make sure to check out our new blog, Choice 2.0, and the News & Observer's article for more details and perspective on this issue!

Take a look at this postcard that was actually altered and sent in the mail by one of our supporters!

Now do it yourself! Why send this original text from the postcard: Please oppose government-run health insurance. We can meet our health care challenges without government unfairly competing with the private sector. Tell Senate leaders that North Carolina doesn’t need government-run health insurance.

When with a few quick changes you can send this?

Please support a public option for health insurance. We can meet our health care challenges . Tell Senate leaders that North Carolina  needs government to step up to help provide health insurance for all. Real health care reform should also guarantee access to all reproductive healthcare options, including abortion care.

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
Senator Kay Hagan (if you live in North Carolina)

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Please support public option and reproductive health care

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

I am writing to urge you to support a public option under Health Care Reform. Real reform should also guarantee that all reproductive health care options are covered and that women are not worse off after reform than they were before.

It is time for the Senate to step up and make sure that health care is available to all, not just a privileged few.

I am outraged by Blue Cross and Blue Shield's recent tactics to undermine the public option and hope that you will remember that real voters like me support the public option and want the full range of reproductive health care options covered.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
