We need your help to fix the state budget!
We need your help to fix the state budget!
Last week, the State House passed a budget for the 2010 Fiscal Year beginning July 1st, 2009. We are pleased with many aspects of the House’s budget: it restores some money for school nurses, for mental health and substance abuse services, for public health departments which provide essential health care services to low income families, AND it includes money to expand Medicaid family planning services to low income women.
BUT, there is a lot of concern that the House budget does not include sufficient funds for anticipated growth in Medicaid and Peachcare for the coming year. With an increase in unemployment comes the loss of health insurance, and more Georgians will be turning to Medicaid for their health care coverage. Other important state programs have also been cut, including education. State employees face furloughs.
Please contact your state representative and state senator!
Ask them pass the tobacco tax NOW!

Subject: Help Struggling Georgians!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Your help is needed to ensure a state budget which meets the most basic health care needs of struggling Georgians!
During this economic crisis, I want the state to be able to continue providing vital services in health care, education and safety. Please pass the tobacco tax NOW to bring in much-needed revenues.
Raising the tax on tobacco is a far more reasonable solution to the state revenue shortage than further cutting critical services.
Sincerely,
