Greetings,
Buffer
Zone Ordinance Passes!
Today, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance that
will create a safety zone around hospitals, medical clinics, and
health care facilities. This is great news for our
patients, staff, and volunteers!
Within this 50 foot buffer, individuals will be prohibited
from approaching people within 8 feet unless they are given
permission. In addition, the ordinance will prohibit
interfering with someone's ability to enter or leave a medical
facility. The new ordinance protects patients, medical
staff and volunteers from harassment. It
also balances the right of individuals to access medical
care with the right of protestors to express themselves at a
safe distance.
Thank you to all of our supporters who
wrote or called their aldermen in support of the buffer
zone! And thanks so much to our amazing group of activists
who attended this morning's City Council Meeting to show
their support!
You've done amazing work, but
we're not quite done yet - Check out how your
alderman voted on this ordinance and be sure to either give them
a call and thank them for supporting health & safety or let
them know that you are dissappointed in their vote. You
can find
out how they voted and get their phone number right
here! If you're not sure who your alderman is, just click here to find out!
As always, thanks so much for all you do to ensure safe
access to reproductive health care - you've done a great job
this week!
