Urge Lawmakers to Protect Our Health
Urge your state legislators to co-sponsor our legislative agenda
Call or email your state senator and state representative today and urge them to co-sponsor the PPLM legislative agenda for 2009-2010. The new legislative session has begun, and we need your help to secure support for our top three legislative priorities:
"An Act Updating the Public Health Laws," which would repeal several old and unconstitutional anti-abortion/contraception laws;
"An Act Relative to Consent and Counseling for Certain Minors," which would expand counseling options for minors seeking abortions;
and the Health Education Bill which would make explicit that comprehensive health education is a core subject for public schools.
Note: Please reply to this email if your state senator or state representative has changed since the election, and you need their contact information.

Subject: Co-Sponsor Sexual Health Matters Bills
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing as your constituent, and as a supporter of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, to urge you to co-sponsor three important bills.
The first, "An Act Updating the Public Health Laws," would repeal several antiquated and unconstitutional anti-abortion/contraceptive laws which are still on our books. They include a complete abortion ban, a hospitalization requirement for abortions after the first trimester, and a law barring the sale of contraceptives to single people.
The second, "An Act Relative to Consent and Counseling for Certain Minors," would expand the categories of people who could give consent to minors who are seeking abortions so that they do not have to endure the judicial by-pass process when it is not safe for them to discuss this issue with their parents.
The third, the Health Education Bill, makes explicit that comprehensive health education is a core subject for public schools, and it would create a system to identify the current gaps in health education across Massachusetts.
To co-sponsor the Public Health Laws Bill and the Alternative Counseling for Minors Bill, please contact the office of Representative Ellen Story at (617) 722-2575. To co-sponsor the Health Education Bill, please contact the office of Representative Alice Wolf at (617) 722-2400.
Thank you for considering these bills for co-sponsorship. I and many other constituents in your district would appreciate your active leadership in ensuring the passage of these bills. Please contact me and let me know if you will be signing on as a co-sponsor of these important proposals.
Sincerely,
|
