Subject: Please vote NO on SJR-127
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As a Tennessean, I'm concerned about SJR127, the proposed amendment to our Constitution that would strip away the right to abortion for the women of Tennessee. Our state Constitution exists to help protect the people's rights, including the right to privacy and reproductive choice.
SJR127 has passed in the Senate, and I understand it will be up before the Public Health and Family Assistance subcommittee in the next few weeks. Please vote against this terrible bill.
While the Senators who voted for SJR127 are trying to make it harder for women to access abortion services, very little is being done legislatively to help women prevent unintended pregnancy in the first place. Access to birth control and accurate sex education can decrease the need for abortion. Banning abortion will do nothing to decrease the need - it will simply make criminals out of pregnant women.
SJR127 is not the solution.
Please stand up for the rights of women in this great state, and vote against SJR-127.
Thank you for your courage and leadership.
Sincerely,
|

SJR-127, an amendment to the Tennessee Constitution stripping the right to reproductive choice away from Tennessee's women, has passed the Senate. We MUST stop it before it passes the House! The bill has been placed in the Public Health and Family Assistance subcommittee of the House and will be heard within the next few weeks. Please contact the members of this sub-committee and ask them to protect our Constitution and our citizens.
As it is currently written, SJR127 is so cynical and mean-spirited that it could be used to even force women and girls who have been raped or been the victim of incest to actually bear their attacker's child, even if the girl is as young as 12 or 13. It could also force women to carry pregnancy even when that pregnancy will cause the woman herself to die.
Tennessee's Courts have already upheld the reproductive rights protections implicit in the Tennessee Constitution. This amendment would strip those protections away, leaving Tennessee's women and girls vulnerable to the whim of the Legislature.
This amendment proves that some of Tennessee's legislators have no regard for the lives or the health of Tennessee's mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, and partners. Please contact the members of the House Public Health and Family Assistance sub-committee and ask them to stop this mean-spirited amendment, and protect the rights of the women of Tennessee.
