Thank You for Voting Against SJR127
Sadly on Monday, May 18, 2009 the Tennessee General Assembly APPROVED SJR127 by a vote of 77-21.
SJR127 is an extreme measure: it would amend Tennessee's Constitution eliminating the right to privacy as it pertains to abortion. But, the language is deceptive. It implies that exceptions have been made for victims of rape and incest and for women whose lives are in danger. However, SJR127 states that legislators retain the right to eventually consider making exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother; but as it is written there are NO exceptions to protect women.
So, we would like to extend our gratitude to the 22 legislators who voted "NO" - Ulysses Jones changed his vote after the tally. They stood up to protect women in Tennessee and deserve a "Thank You." Click here to send them your personal thank you message!

Subject: Thank You for Your No Vote!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Thank you for taking a stand to protect women in Tennessee and for being the voice of reason with your "No" vote on SJR127.
This is an extreme amendment. It does nothing to reduce unintended pregnancies or to help eliminate the need for abortion. What we need are common sense prevention measures like comprehensive sex education and easier access to family planning services like low-cost, affordable birth control.
Amending our state constitution to take rights away from half of our state population is not the answer to reducing abortions in Tennessee.
Thank you,
