Hey Rep. Moore: Support Healthcare!

Health care reform is at a critical point in this country. The debate continues to center on the cost of the legislation (generally hovering around 1 trillion dollars), potential cost-savings, and the fate of the public health insurance option. While timing and process are still uncertain, one thing is clear: opponents of women’s health are launching an all-out offensive on women’s access to reproductive health care.  There is no more critical time for us to be fully engaged in this debate, and communication with our congressional delegation could not be more important for women’s health.

Congressman Dennis Moore has always been very supportive of women's healthcare. Click here and ask Congressman Moore to ensure that women’s health care, including reproductive health care, is a priority in health care reform!

Women's healthcare has been threatened by a barrage of anti-choice amendments, and has narrowly survived inclusion into the Senate version of the bill.  The House is currently debating these issues and it is clear that there have been a lot of behind-the-scenes conversations about restrictions on women’s reproductive health services.

Please send Congressman Moore a letter today! Click here and ask Congressman Moore to speak out in support of comprehensive reproductive health care and ask him to defend against any attacks on women’s health care that would leave women worse off then they are today!

Subject: Hey Rep. Moore: Support Healthcare!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Rep. Dennis Moore:

As one of your constituents, I am concerned about the upcoming votes on healthcare reform.

Healthcare reform is much needed in this country. However, I am concerned about what healthcare will be available under the proposed plan. Many legislators have tried to strip out basic women?s healthcare from this bill, including access to contraception. Safety net clinics, such as Planned Parenthood, have also fallen under attack. 71% of Planned Parenthood?s clients are at 150% of the poverty line or below. Locally, the Comprehensive Health clinic in Overland Park sees thousands of patients that may not be able to receive healthcare anywhere else.

Women should not be worse off after healthcare reform than before. I ask that you support a fully inclusive healthcare option that truly works for the women of Kansas and the entire country.

Sincerely,

Background Information

Healthcare reform is at a critical point in this country.

Not only are women's healthcare issues being debated - whether or not we have access to affordable, accessable contraception, pap smears and STI testing and treatment - but also whether we will have any healthcare at all.  Many amendments submitted already would have the effect of removing healthcare benefits that many women already receive under private plans.  Women should not be worse off after healthcare reform than before.

Currently the Blue Dog Democrats, of which local Rep. Dennis Moore is a leader, are threatening to block healthcare reform due to funding questions.  While funding support for healthcare reform is a very important issue, we must ensure that reform is both passed and inclusive.

Please email Rep. Moore today expressing your support healthcare reform that is inclusive of women's reproductive healthcare.
