  2009 Tennessee Legislative Update

The 2009 session of the Tennessee General Assembly is over. Although it was a difficult one for Planned Parenthood in Tennessee, your emails, phone calls and other efforts helped to mitigate the negative impact of a State House and Senate dominated by socially conservative legislators.

Click here to read our 2009 Tennessee legislative update about attempts to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict reproductive rights!

PPGMR's National HIV Testing Day Event Was a Big Success!

On Friday, June 26, PPGMR did outreach HIV testing and counseling at Memphis Towers, 1081 Court Avenue in Midtown Memphis.

Our Health Educators performed OraQuick testing on 49 men and women and spoke with and counseled many others!

HIV testing and counseling is an important part of PPGMR's mission to provide comprehensive reproductive health care to women and men in the Greater Memphis Area.

PPGMR Advocates for Reproductive Health Care and Rights in Washington

In addition to our organizing and policy activities in Tennessee, PPGMR also advocates for reproductive rights and health policies on a national level. We support expanded federal funding of the Title X family planning program, whose funding has not been adjusted to keep pace with inflation since 1980.
PPGMR also wants to ensure that essential community-based health care providers like Planned Parenthood are included in any health plan networks created under health care reform.

Oppose the Constitutional Amendment to Ban Abortion in Tenneessee

On May 18, 2009, the Tennessee General Assembly passed Senate Joint Resolution 127. SJR 127 is a dangerous and deceptive measure to amend Tennessee's Constitution. It could eliminate a woman's right to abortion with no exception for women who are victims of rape, incest or whose pregnancies endanger their health.
