Senate Bill 134 is a proactive piece of legislation.  After two defeated abortion bans in as many years, it's time to focus on prevention and that's exactly what this bill does.  SB 134 provides equity for prescription birth control.  So, if an insurance company has a prescription drug plan in place, it must include FDA approved contraceptives, such as the pill.

It is my understanding that SB 134 will be before committee later this week. Once it passes there, which I am optimistic it will, it will be before the entire Senate body.

I strongly encourage you to vote in favor of this proactive piece of legislation.

The voters of SD have spoken: they are not interested in bans or restrictions on abortion. What they are interested in is measures that will do something real to prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion.

As proposed, the measure provides an exception for religious organizations, which include qualifying churches and private educational institutions with religious affiliations.

Senate Bill 134 makes sense. Please vote in favor of it.
