SB 134 Fails

CONTRACEPTIVE EQUITY FACES LOSS ON SENATE FLOOR

On Tuesday, a proactive piece of legislation that would've done something real about preventing unintended pregnancies was voted down on the floor of the Senate by a vote of 13 - 22.

22 Senators could not see SB 134 as a common sense piece of public policy.  They did not recognize that over 80-thousand women in South Dakota are in need of contraceptive services and supplies.  They failed to hear the voice of the public:  a majority of South Dakotans support prevention programs.

Please share your disappointment with your Senator.

Subject: SB 134

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am very sorry to learn that you chose to vote against SB 134 when it came to the floor of the Senate on Tuesday afternoon.

Contraceptive Equity is common sense public policy.

By working together to improve access to contraception, we could've done something positive to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies in the state.

I am sorry to learn that you turned your back on the more than 80-thousand women in our state who are in need of contraceptives.

This was a good piece of legislation. I wish you could've seen that.

Sincerely,
