Secretary of State Verifies Signatures--What you can do now!

Yesterday the South Dakota Secretary of State, Chris Nelson, verified the 16,728 signatures needed to put the abortion ban on the November ballot.  Now the campaign begins! South Dakotans will have the opportunity to send a message to the South Dakota Legislature and VOTE NO against this extreme government intrusion into our personal lives. Planned Parenthood will continue to work with the South Dakota Campaign for Healthy Families, the ballot commitee formed to defeat the abortion ban.

What Can You Do?

Please write a letter-to-the-editor of your local newspaper! Proponents of the abortion ban continue to overflow newspapers across the state with inaccurate and misleading information about the abortion ban. We must counter these tactics! Please send a letter! See below for an example!

I want to thank all of the people who carried petitions to gather the signatures needed to put the abotion ban on the November ballot. We only needed 16,728 signatures and came out with 38,000! This is a clear indication that South Dakotans do not want the government intruding in their personal and private lives.

Everyone I know believes those who have a serious health condition or are victims of rape and incest must have access to safe and legal abortion in South Dakota. The government has no right telling a 12 year old girl that she must carry her father's child as a victim of incest. The government has no right telling a woman that she must suffer the loss of a kidney or other serious health condition through a pregnancy. Most South Dakotans I know care about the women in their lives. The passage of this law is cruel and immoral. It will be stopped when we go to the polls in November.

Volunteer at the Republican or Democratic State Convention

Planned Parenthood will have a table at both the Republican and Democratic State Convention. The Republican Party State Convention will be held in Watertown on Friday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 24th. The Democratic Convention will be held in Huron on Friday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 24th. Please contact Ky at kguse@ppmns.org to sign up to volunteer. We must convince both parties to choose a plaform that will oppose the abortion ban!

REMINDER--National HIV Testing Day--Free HIV testing at Planned Parenthood!

Tuesday, June 27th is National HIV testing day. Planned Parenthood is offering FREE HIV testing!
