OMG... TEEN SEXTING AND INTERNET USE ;-)
Facilitator: Oscar Raúl López
Today, mobile texting technology allows individuals to communicate and diffuse sexual messages (sexting) at a greater level and faster pace than ever before. At issue with "sexting" is that the content can be easily and widely promulgated, and the originator looses control. Twenty percent of teens admit to participating in "sexting," which in addition to text flirting and sexual dailogue can include electronically sent or posted nude pictures or videos of themselves; many have used cell phones and the internet in this way to meet new partners and even strangers. Beyond what this means for sexual and reproductive health, "sexting" can also be a malicious act, used for bullying and harassment, and in some cases it has legal consequences. Rather than demonize technology- parents, providers, and concerned adults can learn to use this opportunity to discuss sexuality.
