Tuesday, November 18, 2008: "Unequal Partners: Addressing Power and Consent in Adult-Teen and Other Relationships" This workshop aims to increase professionals' understanding of the dynamics, complexities and risks of adult-teen and other unhealthy relationships. Participants will review and practice methods for effective interactions with young people about healthy relationships, including how to understand guidelines for consent, how to recognize the warning signals of unhealthy relationships and how to communicate about relationship issues.
Wednesday, November 19, 2008: "Positive Encounters: Working One-to-One with Teens on Sexual Decision-Making" In this workshop, participants will consider how personal background, attitudes, values and beliefs can impact one's ability to counsel young people effectively. Participants will also examine factors that contribute to young people's decision-making, explore strategies for overcoming resistance, improve one-to-one communication between adults and teens and identify ways that they can support and encourage adolescents to make healthy, responsible choices related to their sexuality.
