THE SEXUAL HEALTH OF LATINOS--BUILDING ON COMMUNITY STRENGTHS

Facilitator: Oscar Raúl López

Latinos in the U.S. include a diverse mixture of racial and ethnic groups and cultures, but share common factors with other ethnic groups that increase vulnerability to unwanted pregnancy, HIV and sexually transmitted infections.  Latinos can be supported to encourage healthy sexuality through the exploration of gender role expectations, teaching children about sexuality and accepting diversity. Workshop participants will be encouraged to develop programs that build upon the protective aspects of Latino culture and emphasize resiliency.
