FORUM: Addressing Gender-Based Violence with Immigrant Communities in NYC
The New York City Alliance against Sexual Assault will present findings from a pilot participatory action research project conducted in 2006 on sexual violence among a diverse group of immigrant communities in NYC. Participants in the pilot represented 12 countries in Africa, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. This pilot project led to the formation of a coalition called ARISE (Action Research for Immigrant Social Empowerment), which focuses on using participatory action research to address gender-based violence among immigrant communities in NYC. Forum attendees will receive a copy of the project’s final report, discuss how to apply this project’s research tools to other settings, and explore how to develop gender-based violence intervention and prevention programs for immigrant communities.
