HIV continues to be spread among young people in this country at alarming rates. The Centers for Disease Control estimate that almost half of all HIV infections in the nation occur in people aged 25 years or younger, and the vast majority of these are sexually transmitted. Thirty years after HIV was first identified, critical questions are still being asked about how to provide effective HIV education to youth and help them to reduce their risk of infection. This training will explore what the scientific literature indicates about young people’s risk for HIV infection, issues that today’s infected and affected youth are facing, and best practices for providing effective HIV education to youth. At the end of the training, participants will be able to: identify risk factors that contribute to the prevalence of HIV infection among youth, identify how to provide support to youth infected and affected by HIV, and describe program models and activities to effectively teach youth about HIV and risk reduction.
This event is supported by a grant from The New York Community Trust.
