Teen men and women need to understand that they are deserving and capable of achieving healthy relationships, free from violence and abuse. Even youth who are in the celebrity limelight are not immune to intimate partner violence as evidenced by a recent alleged incident involving two of R & B’s rising teen artists. Youth service providers, health educators, and other caring adults can play a vital role by talking with youth about the realities and complexities of intimate relationships, what a healthy relationship looks like, signs of intimate partner violence, and their entitlement to a healthy relationship. At the end of the training, participants will be able to: identify the characteristics of healthy relationships and raise young people’s awareness of them, describe the spectrum of relationship abuse, and identify community resources that can support youth in dealing with an unhealthy relationship. Participants will also learn about appealing activities and teaching tools to educate youth about healthy relationships.
