Parents are - and should be - the primary sexuality educators of their children. For the past nine years, PPNYC has addressed this concern through the Adult Role Models (ARM) program, a parent peer education program that provides parents and other caring adults with the information and skills they need to talk comfortably with their children about sexuality and to strengthen parent-child relationships. This workshop will walk you through the practical considerations of implementing a small or large-scale parent involvement program. At the end of this training, participants will be able to: understand research findings on parental involvement, describe strategies to recruit parents and keep them actively involved, design activities to teach parents communication and relationship-building techniques, create an agency action plan to increase parent involvement, and use the ARM Program Manual, which provides tools, curricula, and resources.
