About half of all pregnancies that occur among women in the U.S. are unintended. Of those, about half will result in abortion, accounting for well over a million abortions per year. The decision to terminate a pregnancy, made by women from all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds and a wide range of ages, is often facilitated by counselors, nurses, health educators, social workers, community health workers, and other providers who are interested in providing the best health care to women. Yet many professionals struggle to provide accurate, up-to-date information about abortion to their clients. Service providers may also find it challenging to separate their own values from their professional role in giving their clients complete and unbiased information about pregnancy options. This training will give professionals the information and skills they need to communicate with and educate their clients about the option of abortion.
