Greetings,
You Did It! Prevention First hearings have been
scheduled!
On October 16, you sent an e-mail to the Chair of the House
Health Committee, Rep. Barbara Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights),
asking her to schedule hearings on the Ohio Prevention First Act
(HB 293) before Thanksgiving.
Thank you!
In less than five hours, 174 e-mails were received in Rep.
Boyd’s office and at 3:09 that afternoon, I received
notice that a first hearing had been scheduled for the
Ohio Prevention First Act!
Thank you! Thank you!
Rep. Tyrone Yates (D-Cincinnati), sponsor of HB 293,
delivered sponsor testimony before the House Health Committee on
October 28. The hearing room was packed with Planned
Parenthood supporters showing their support for Rep. Yates and
the Ohio Prevention First Act.
The committee even had to take a small break as the majority
of the room stood up and left after Rep. Yates delivered his
testimony. What a great visual statement of support for
the Ohio Prevention First Act!
And now, even more good news!
Through Rep. Yates’ office, I have received word that,
for the first time ever and after 3½ years of hard work,
the House Health Committee is expected to hear public
testimony in support of the Ohio Prevention First Act on
Wednesday, November 18.
Be assured that we will be in the hearing room to represent
the tens of thousands of Planned Parenthood supporters
throughout Ohio who are advocating for the passage of the Ohio
Prevention First Act.
Again, thank you for your support and we will keep you
updated on the progress of this landmark legislation to prevent
unintended pregnancies and to ensure that our teens get
comprehensive, medically-accurate sex education.
