The United States Supreme Court, with President Bush's new anti-choice appointments Chief Justice John Roberts and Samuel Alito, dealt a devastating blow to women's rights by upholding the Federal Abortion Ban that excludes any exceptions for women's health.

Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue had this to say about the decision, "The court has now said it 's OK to ban procedures.  We can do more than just put hurdles in front of women seeking abortions - we can put roadblocks in front of them."  Associated Press 4/19/07

Planned Parenthood lead attorny Eve Gartner describes the ruling as "devastating to women's health."  In a powerful dissent, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg wrote, "Today's decision is alarming."

The Federal Deficit Reduction Act-signed into law in February, 2006, adversely afftects the ability of university health centers, some safety net family planning providers and some Planned Parenthood affiliates, to purchase contraceptives at a discounted nominal price.  Participate in our advocacy campaign below.

Bill to Repeal the Citizenship Documentation Requirements Introduced
Rep. Corrine Brown (D-FL) introduced HR 1878, a bill to modify the citizenship documentation requirements for Medicaid eligibility.  A companion bill has been introduced in the Senate by Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-NM).  Both bills would repeal the law authorizing the federal regulation and instead give states the authority to determine when and to what extent citizenship verification is required and most importantly, it would ensure that the thousands of citizen children and adults, who were erroneously denied Medicaid, may receive retroactive Medicaid eligibility for the coverage they were inappropriately denied.
