Subject: Texas Prevention First Act
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
This session put Texas women and families first on your list of priorities by supporting HB 1842/SB 837, the Texas Prevention First Act. This bill includes several commonsense measures that will help prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion.
The Texas Prevention First Act ensures that women and their families get the health care and information they need to stay healthy and make informed decisions for themselves and their families.
When women are healthy, their families and our communities are healthy.
Stand up for Texas women and families. Support the Texas Prevention First Act of 2007.
Sincerely,

Prevention First!
Dear ,
With your help, Texas women and families can soon enjoy a healthier future. An exciting new legislative initiative was just introduced in the Texas Legislature that will help restore the essential health services that many women were denied last year. As you probably know, women’s health care in Texas has suffered major setbacks over the last few years. The Texas Legislature has disrupted funding for family planning health services, making access to care far more out of reach for Texas women and families. This has likely resulted in an increase in the number of unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and undetected breast and cervical cancer.
The Texas Prevention First Act, HB 1842 /SB *** authored by State Rep. Mark Strama (D-Austin) and Sen. Kirk Watson (D-Austin), and co-authored by a bi-partisan coalition of Texas legislators, can reverse this trend. This exciting initiative is designed to improve the health of Texas families by:
* calling for the state to increase awareness about the availability of family planning services through marketing and outreach to women and families
*involving parents in their child’s sex education with a “parents right to know” initiative that clarifies what school districts are including and what they’re leaving out of their sex education curriculum
* requiring school districts that teach students about contraception to provide complete and medically accurate information about contraceptive effectiveness
In addition to improving the health and wellness of Texas families, the Texas Prevention First Act will save the state and federal governments millions of dollars over the long term by investing in prevention.
Today is your chance to reverse the trends of the last few years and put Texas women and families first. Take action now - tell your legislators to support the Texas Prevention First Act.
