Teens Deserve Better
With only two weeks left of the legislative session, Texas legislators have failed to put the health of our teens first. They have done nothing to ensure that Texas’ sex education programs provide medically accurate information or more thoroughly discuss the role of condoms and contraception in promoting sexual health.
Today, however, several lawmakers will make a final push to improve sex education in Texas classrooms—and they need your help!
Contact your state Representative Monday morning. Ask him/her to support amendments that Reps. Castro, Villarreal, and Strama will offer during the debate on SB 283. These amendments will help improve sex education in Texas schools.

Subject: Texas Teens Deserve Better
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As your constituent, I'm asking you to support the amendments that Reps. Castro, Villarreal, and Strama will offer during the debate on SB 283. These amendments will greatly improve sex education in Texas schools and better help our young people make responsible decisions, prevent teen pregnancies, and remain healthy.
The facts clearly show Texas' current policy of abstinence-only sex education is not working. It is no coincidence that Texas receives more abstinence-only funding than any other state, yet has the third highest teen birth rate and the highest repeat birth rate to teens in the U.S.
It's time Texas youth received sexual health information that really works to keep them healthy, prevent unintended pregnancies, and help them make wise decisions now and in the future.
Sincerely,
|
