Planned Parenthood Action Fund Announces Historic Endorsement of Sen. John Kerry

John Kerry, Gloria Feldt energize thousands at pro-choice rally

Washington, DC - Planned Parenthood Action Fund President Gloria Feldt, alongside Sen. John Kerry, today announced at an energetic pro-choice rally that the Action Fund has endorsed Sen. Kerry for President of the United States.

The announcement marks the first time in the non-partisan, independent Planned Parenthood Action Fund's history that it has endorsed in the presidential race.

"It's a proud day for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund to stand with Sen. Kerry and announce that he is receiving our first-ever presidential endorsement," Feldt said. "Sen. Kerry has been a consistent and passionate advocate for women's rights throughout his distinguished career in public office and we enthusiastically pledge to support his commitment to domestic and global women's health through this endorsement.

"We must stop the Bush Administration's war on choice. This administration has no respect for the medical privacy or fundamental rights of women. There's never been a more frightening time for the future of reproductive rights. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund will make sure that pro-choice Americans know exactly what's at stake in this election."

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund has embarked upon an ambitious effort to mobilize pro-choice Americans throughout the country. Specifically, the Action Fund has set forth a multi-tiered plan to increase turnout among a key bloc of the electorate - single women. The Action Fund's bipartisan, pro-choice, pro-family planning message has strong resonance with this group of voters, as well as moderate Republican and swing voters.

Using its favorability rating of over 80 percent with single women and moderate swing voters, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund has set forth an aggressive early contact plan that will begin in June in key battleground states and carry through to November. To increase turnout among these key voting blocs, The Action Fund will communicate with these voters through a variety of means including direct mail, phones, broadcast advertising and person-to-person contact.

"It's time for the Planned Parenthood Action Fund to bring its extraordinary strength with critically important voting blocs to bear at a point in history when reproductive rights are most threatened," Feldt said.
