Stop Discrimination at Pharmacies!

Women across are being refused when they want their prescriptions for emergency contraception and other birth control pills filled - because pharmacies refuse to adopt policies that protect their customers. Federal legislation that would stop this blatant discrimination has been introduced, but it's not moving in Congress.

Help us build up support by writing to your senators and representative today.

Subject: Please Support Access to Prescription Medication

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to urge you to support the Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (S 778.IS) and the Access to Legal Pharmaceuticals Act (S 809.IS, HR 1652.IH). As your constituent, I am disturbed by the refusal of some pharmacists to fill women's prescriptions for birth control, including emergency contraception. Medicine that has been approved by the FDA and legally prescribed by a doctor should not be denied to women who need it because of the personal bias of pharmacists or pharmacy owners. This practice is discriminatory and deprives women of their basic right to health care access.

Please support this important legislation.

Sincerely,

Background Information

The Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2005 and the Access to Legal Pharmaceuticals Act, which would protect women from the discrimination of pharmacy refusals, have been introduced in Congress. But your lawmakers need to hear from you or these bills may never gain the support necessary to be brought to a vote.
