Stop the War on Birth Control
Throughout the country, at both the federal and state levels, there has been a frontal assault on virtually all forms of reproductive health care, from abortion to birth control, from emergency contraception to sex education.
It's time to put a stop to the War on Birth Control, with a congressional resolution that declares, once and for all, that our government should protect access to contraception.
Americans of all political stripes know that birth control is the best way to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. Urge your senators and representative to support this important measure today.

Subject: Stop the War on Birth Control: Support H.CON. Res. 404 and S. Res. 485
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing as your constituent to urge you to support the important resolution (H.CON. Res. 404 and S. Res. 485) concerning family planning, introduced by Rep. Nita Lowey in the House and Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Senate.
Access to family planning is a cherished right of American women. The United States has one of the highest rates of abortion in the industrialized world, and ensuring access to contraception for all women is the medically proven way to reduce the number of unintended pregnancies -- and the number of abortions. Yet some still insist that access to birth control should be restricted, through law or by limiting health coverage for it.
Low-income women are hardest hit by restrictions on access to affordable birth control. Contraceptive use has declined (slightly among all women and precipitously among low-income women) and, as a result, unplanned pregnancy rates have risen among low-income women by nearly 30 percent.
If we don't give women a way to afford birth control, more of them will turn to abortion as a last resort. Abortion rates have increased among low-income women, even as they have continued to decrease among more affluent women. Lack of coverage for contraception and other health care costs result in women of reproductive age paying 68 percent more in out-of-pocket costs for health care services than do men of the same age.
It's time to turn to proven solutions that will reduce the number of unintended pregnancies. Please support H.CON. Res. 404/S. Res. 485 and stop the War on Birth Control.
Sincerely,
|
