We add our names in opposition to the UW Birth Control Ban. This bill would ban health care providers at UW health centers and on all UW property from advertising, prescribing or dispensing birth control to adult female students, including emergency contraception to rape victims. This bill unconstitutionally discriminates against women and violates over 40 years of Supreme Court decisions establishing that access to birth control is a fundamental right. By denying women access to basic health care like birth control, this bill will increase unintended pregnancies and the need for abortion. Additionally, the UW Birth Control Ban interferes with the patient-doctor relationship, abridges women's constitutional right to access birth control, and denies sexual assault victims access to pregnancy prevention following an assault. As voters who support access to birth control, we unite in supporting students' continued access to full health care on campus and in opposition to the UW Birth Control Ban.
