Senator Jeff Plale stood up for women's health when he voted for Roger Axtell and Mike Weiden for the UW Hospital Board.

Roger Axtell and Mike Weiden were instrumental in protecting access to abortion services in Dane County.  Both voted in favor of the proposal to provide abortion care at the Madison Surgery Center.  Thankfully, Senator Plale understood that their positive vote showed compassion and commitment to women's health and safety and voted to confirm these qualified men to the UW Hospital Board.

Background Information

~ The retirement of an abortion provider in Madison left a gap in the availability of some abortion services.  UW Hospital, in conjunction with the Madison medical community, stepped it to address this gap in care with the support of their board members, like Mike Weiden and Roger Axtell.

~ Abortion remains safe and legal, but it must be accessible so all of women's reproductive health care options are available to them.

~ Planned Parenthood salutes the leaders of the UW Hospital Board for voting in favor of a proposal to provide abortion care at the Madison Surgery Center, which the hospital jointly owns with 2 other medical entities. This positive vote showed the Board's compassion and commitment to providing comprehensive and safe reproductive care in a medical setting.
